A cyber attack on the 11th February has wiped out the email service provided by VFEmail. According to the company, the attack formatted all disks on every server. Every VM is lost, every file server is lost, every backup server is lost.
Two days later, the company’s web is still showing the same message.

We have suffered catastrophic destruction at the hands of a hacker, last seen as firstname.lastname@example.org
This person has destroyed all data in the US, both primary and backup systems. We are working to recover what data we can.
An attack of this magnitude can force a company out of business. The impact is magnified by the loss of backup systems making recovery next to impossible.
Attacks of this kind highlight the risk that all network connected systems face and the need for effective security. Current technology trends expose phone and unified communications systems to the same risk profile. A similar successful attack on a company’s phone system would not only take the phone system offline, but would lose all voice mail and any archived call recordings. In many sectors there is a legal requirement to record and retain calls. Loss of these recordings would compound the problem leaving the victim organisation with no mechanism of conducting business and with the additional pressure of an investigation from the regulators.
Unicus™ provides security for real-time communication services and applications, protecting organisations from cyber attack.
